PERSONALITY
+ clever While not a particularly smart boy, there's is a cleverness to Haru that undercuts what is obviously a lack of book smarts. While he can't do math, he can clean up house playing poker.

+ social Endlessly energetic, Haru never runs out of social battery, and will follow an interesting person to the end of the earth even if they have absolutely no interest in meeting him. Be his friend, or else...!

- manipulative It may seem like Haru only has the best of intentions, but what Haru has are the best intentions for himself. He is an incredibly manipulative and selfish little boy, and gets frustrated when things don't go his way.

+ upfront Haru is a blunt and straightforward boy who will say exactly what he wants and expects without mincing his words.

- horny... Unfortunately Haru's favourite way to pass time is experimenting with different ways to jack off, sorry...

HISTORY
Haru grew up in a small farming village east of the Ouno River, completing his elementary schooling in Usuki and boarding in Oita during highschool, returning to the farm to "help" on weekends (unhelpfully pulling weeds out of the ground with his hands while talking constantly and contributing little). Twice a year he would accompany his dad for a long drive to Tokyo to peddle the glamour of farm life to city kids in an attempt to encourage agriculture to modern youth, finding himself falling in love with the big city and the countless different kinds of people he would accost. No two people had the same story, and he would spend most of the trip chatting (mostly with girls, as he found himself to be a fairly popular social butterfly). It put into perspective for him how many of the people he was surrounded by out in the sticks were all the same kind of gruff-hard-worker-with-a-heart-of-gold farmer, and that he knew all of them already.

Desperate to find his way to a bigger city, Haru tried to get a part time job in Oita, but the pay was so bad it seemed like it would take him an eternity to save enough money to make it to the other side of the country. After Googling "ways for underage students to make lots of money" and realising he had absolutely no talent for most of the suggestions, he joined a rental friend service to capitalise on his only skill, which was talking endlessly. His first paid gig was pretending to be an affluent businesswoman's son for a business merger party. She paid for his clothes, his hair, and his makeup to be done, and he found his follower count online to rise dramatically after posting photos of himself all made up.

During the week, he would stay in Oita and attend school during the day, then head straight to a rental gig at night. On nights where he had nothing to do, he would stay in his room and take pictures of himself to see what would get him the most attention. Street wear, tailored suits, traditional dress, and cheap cosplays only got him so far, but it wasn't until he and his female friend traded uniforms that he was inundated with compliments about how much it suited him. Faceless photos of his long legs in short skirts ended up doing rounds on image sharing sites.

He did of course lie to his parents about what he was doing for part time work, and told them he got a lucrative job in a popup café with high pay because it wasn't going to be ongoing work.

He quit the rental service when he saved up enough money and moved to Tokyo with the support of his parents for his highschooling, but the cost of living in the big city was so far out from what he expected, and he started up the same business in the city. He ended up meeting (almost exclusively) girls doing the same thing, and used their advice to grow his popularity.

After highschool he made the decision to stay in the city, continuing paid dating during the day and casual hosting at night (not his favourite because it feels a little bit too manufactured, but it's a good way to make money and keep busy).

Eventually he runs into his elementary school sweetheart Kyouko while enjoying the Christmas lights, and it feels a little bit too much of a coincidence for it to be anything but the universe trying to get them back together, right?! She's much gloomier than he remembers, but he makes a big impression on her with his total lack of regard for what people think of him, freedom to express himself how he wants, and general ease with which he moves through his life.

Through persistence he gets Kyouko to agree to date him (actually, for free), and does his best to pull her from her shell, but he can tell she has some pretty big issues she's struggling to work through, and she won't let him get particularly close to her. He doesn't mind though, and it's actually a little bit refreshing that her boundaries are so firm and she's not afraid to enforce them even if it makes her look like an asshole - he likes that she's honest with herself.

Surprisingly, she invites him to a lovers' escape just after their one year anniversary, promising to hold his hand if he accompanies her to a hokora in the mountains for a relationship charm she read online.

Turns out there was no charm however and she was simply luring him out to murder him.
